2009 Luxury Preview: Shades of Kiton
Kiton’s reputation rests on its superbly constructed, handmade tailored clothing; but in recent years the Naples, Italy–based suitmaker has applied this craftsmanship and attention to detail to other sartorial products, including leather outerwear, knitwear, custom-made shoes, and even denim jeans. The firm’s newest venture is a collection of handmade eyewear that is every bit as exclusive as one of its sought-after Super 220 wool suits. Produced by Sover, an Italian luxury eyewear maker, the Kiton Eyewear collection comprises seven limited-edition frame styles in materials such as titanium, acetate, and 18-karat gold. The retro-style frames come in modified wrap-around silhouettes with distinctive tapered temples. And like other items bearing the Kiton label, certain frames can be customized to a client’s personal taste through metallic color enhancements in gold, ruthenium, palladium, and bronze. The eyewear ($1,295 to $12,500) will be available next spring at Neiman Marcus and Kiton stores.
