Phillips de Pury to Auction Off 20th- and 21st-Century Works

Phillips de Pury & Co., a 216-year-old international art companywith outposts in London and New York, is hosting an auction June 15 at its Park Avenue location. Focusing on 20th- and 21st-century decorative arts and design, the auction will feature more than 100 pieces ranging from light fixtures and furniture to sculpture and pottery. On offer are important French Art Deco and Scandinavian postwar works, as well as contemporary ceramic art from Japanese artist Harumi Nakashima. Other prominent names include the late French furniture and interiors designer Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, and French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand. Highlights of the auction include François-Xavier Lalanne’s set of four sheepa circa-1996 flock of three ewes and one ram created from bronze and epoxy stone—which has a presale estimated value as high as $500,000, and Poul Henningsen’s 1955 double-spiralwall light, which was originally made for the Scala Cinema and Concert Hall (part of Denmark’s famous Aarhus Theater) and has a presale estimated value as high as $250,000.
