The standard version of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe is not in short supply of power, with 451 hp pumping to the rear wheels. But the AMG engineers who designed and built this car from the ground up knew that it was capable of more. Enter the limited-edition Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series (www.mbusa.com). Mercedes-Benz will ship as few as 100 examples, priced at $105,000 apiece, to the United States. With flared fenders, carbon-fiber trim, and an aero-influenced rear spoiler, the C63 Black—as the automobile is sometimes called—certainly appears more menacing than the base model. Though the Black Series employs the same 6.2-liter V-8 as the standard C63, AMG has remapped the engine control unit so that the car’s performance is more in tune with that of the SLS AMG Gullwing. The vehicle’s engine produces 510 hp and a sound that evokes a DTM. According to reports, the C63 Black can complete a lap of the Nürburgring in 7 minutes, 46 seconds (nearly as fast as the Gullwing) and reach 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
