Cobra Cult
Carroll Shelby’s take on the latest Mustang recalls the Texan’s tune-up of Ford’s first-era pony car. Like its 1965 forebear, the 2010 model has evolved from a respectable but mostly unremarkable motorcar into a devil only a handful of drivers will appreciate, much less be eager to live with. But just as some pet owners prefer a python to a Pekingese, those who yearn for unbridled horsepower and in-your-face style will find satisfaction with the Super Snake. Hardly understated, this Shelby is loud, and—like a pair of snakeskin cowboy boots—inclined to attract attention wherever it goes. —Robert Ross

Bold Blooded
When it comes to performance enhancers, no one delivers a better dose than Carroll Shelby and his team at Shelby Automobiles—and, consequently, no vehicle is as well fortified as the Ford Mustang. With its 750 hp supercharged V-8 engine, the fire-breathing, rubber-burning, adrenaline-inducing 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake is the latest and most potent conversion to come from the Las Vegas–based Mustang modification outfit. Shelby delivered its first 2010 model to Robb Report’s Car of the Year competition, and many judges—some cherishing memories of the muscle-car era—fell victim to the Snake’s nostalgic charm. —Paul Meyers
