FrontRunners: Beholding the Ocean

<< Back to Robb Report, April 2007

The Mercedes-Benz Concept Ocean Drive car has the underpinnings of the long-wheelbase S600 sedan, the V-12 engine and two-tone exterior color scheme of a Maybach, and a shape that bears a strong resemblance to that of the Bentley Continental GTC. We do not expect this four-door four-seater, which Mercedes (www.mercedes-benz.com) unveiled in January at the North American Inter-national Auto Show in Detroit, to change significantly before it reaches the production line. However, we would be surprised if the car retains some of its flashiest features, including the LED headlamps, oversize multispoke wheels, and bird’s-eye maple tonneau cover. Those seem to be strictly for show, and for the shows.
