Best Of The Best 2006: Aristocat

  • Nancy Olson

Of all the animals represented in Cartier’s extensive design oeuvre, none has had the staying power of the panther. The Paris jewelry house recently revisited its favorite feline with the Panthère de Cartier collection of jewelry, watches, leather goods, and pens, including the Panthère de Cartier fountain pen. In this limited edition of 500 numbered pieces, each $3,750 pen takes the shape of a stylized panther poised to pounce. Although large, the pen’s rhodium-plated sterling silver body is perfectly balanced. The cat’s glowing eyes are made of synthetic green spinel, and its muzzle is onyx. The Panthère de Cartier fountain pen comes with a complementary Art Deco–style crystal pen holder so that you can display the big cat on your desktop.
