Best Of The Best 2006: Diving Into The Caribbean

  • Scott Goetz

Amanyara is proof that Amanresorts’ contemporary Asian style applies equally well to settings far from the Singapore-based chain’s homeland. Located along the west coast of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, Amanyara is the company’s first resort in the Caribbean.

Forty identical timber-shingled, glass-walled pavilions are scattered throughout the property—either on the edge of ponds or along the beachfront—and feature such details as thick-cushioned daybeds, terrazzo floors with teak inlays, and slate showers. Reflecting pools and a 64-foot, black-granite-tile pool highlight the resort’s indoor/outdoor central pavilion area. An adjacent bar overlooks the waters just offshore from the resort’s private beach, which is protected by a reef that offers some of the Caribbean’s best diving.
