Best Of The Best 2006: Heavyweight Champ

  • Linda C. Lentz

Some good things come in conspicuously grand packages. Among these is the Sub-Zero Pro 48, a 48-inch stainless steel unit that weighs in at a hefty 800 pounds. It maintains the style and quality of a restaurant model, but it does not produce excessive heat or noise. Two compressors prevent odors from migrating between the refrigerator and freezer sections, while three evaporators allow you to set one temperature for the two refrigerator drawers and a different temperature for the door cavity.

The Pro 48 is available as a freestanding or built-in unit. Its other features include an ice-maker drawer, LED lighting, hinges that automatically close the doors, and a pair of oven-safe, 2-gallon stainless steel bins that fit under any of the refrigerator’s shelves. The bins are ideal for marinating meat. An optional triple-pane, UV-resistant-glass refrigerator door is available.
