Best Of The Best 2006: In Full Bloom
Cartier’s Caresse d’Orchidées par Cartier, a collection of 36 high jewelry pieces unveiled last fall that portray the exotic beauty of orchids, likely will establish the flower as one of the jewelry house’s signature design motifs, alongside the panther. Among the one-of-a-kind pieces in the collection, all of which sold immediately, is a ring with a 4-carat pink ruby surrounded by layers of petals pavéed with multihued rubies, spinels, and pink sapphires. An equally lavish necklace, made with a flowing chain of emerald, ruby, and diamond beads, is appointed with a jeweled orchid that appears more like an objet d’art than a wearable accessory.
Although none of the original orchid pieces is available, the collection did serve as the foundation for a broader, more accessible collection presently available in Cartier boutiques worldwide.
