Best Of The Best 2006: License To Thrill

  • Anthony Dias Blue

The négociant house of Bouchard Père & Fils (now controlled by Henriot Champagne and therefore a sister company of Chablis producer William Fèvre) is the largest holder of vineyards on the Côte de Beaune, with an extraordinarily high percentage of premier and grand cru vineyards at its disposal. Under Henriot, the winemaking has improved tremendously over the past decade, and today’s Bouchard vintages are once again as thrilling as they were in the mid-20th century.

The elegant and sublime Bouchard Père & Fils 2004 Montrachet is a case in point: The vintage is deep and dense, with creamy notes of vanilla and butterscotch over highly concentrated fruit.
