Best Of The Best 2006: Third Time’s A Charm

Marilyn M. Mower

When he took delivery of his second Blue Moon, a 165-footer, in 2000, Richard Duchossois had no doubt that he would be back for another: He loves the building process as much as he enjoys yachting. But with his new 198-foot Feadship, he finds it difficult to imagine any improvements. Like Duchossois’ previous vessel, this one combines the stylings of London designer Donald Starkey, the naval architecture of De Voogt, and the building expertise of the Royal Van Lent yard. Starkey’s layout enables the use of two pairs of staterooms on the lower deck as two suites when fewer guests are aboard. Similarly, the spacious owner’s apartment on the main deck, which includes its own gym, office, sitting area, and two full baths, could be reconstituted as a pair of VIP suites.
