Best Of The Best 2006: Top Volume

  • Brent Butterworth

Many iPod owners now use their beloved portables as a primary device for music listening. But everyone wants to share music sometimes, and for that task there is nothing like the Monitor Audio i-deck ($250), a two-speaker system into which you can slip an iPod. The speakers, designed by Monitor Audio—the only high-end audio company that has lent its brand and engineering skills to an iPod accessory—produce a sound quality that surpasses any we have heard from other iPod speaker systems.

Included cables let you separate the speakers to enhance the stereo effect. A remote control enables you to skip tunes, control playback, and adjust the volume, and it even works through walls. The system is available in white or black.
