Best Of The Best 2006: Triple Crown

  • Anthony Dias Blue

Auchentoshan, now controlled by Morrison Bowmore Distillers (which Suntory Alliance Brands owns), is an anomaly among Scotch single malts. The distillery is located near Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands, but its water supply comes from across the Highland line. The whiskies are triple-distilled, which is unusual for Scotland, and are only lightly peated, making them smooth and subtle. Auchentoshan 32 Year Old Lowlands Single Malt, a sherry-casked limited edition, is dark and spicy with awesome depth of flavor. It delights the palate with notes of rancio, molasses, oloroso, smoke, dried fruit, and leather.
