Best of the Best 2008: Custom Megayachts: Lürssen Kismet

Kim Kavin

The 223-foot motor yacht Kismet, from the Lürssen Yachts shipyard in Germany, holds far more than the standard main salon and guest-cabin layout: Her spaces include a disco, a steam room, a massage room, a cinema, and private terraces on the port and starboard sides of the master suite. Exterior designer Espen Øino of Norway and the interior design team at Reymond Langton in the United Kingdom collaborated to create the yacht, which reportedly cost more than $130 million.

The heart of the vessel, her main-deck lobby, features a circular glass elevator and a spiral staircase. The master suite, located on the same deck, contains a king-size bed, an office, a library, a walk-in wardrobe, and an onyx-covered bathroom. The yacht also holds a VIP cabin on the upper deck and four cabins belowdecks. "Do not disturb" lights have been installed outside the guest cabins, as well as at the bottom of the stairs that lead to the sundeck. (The owner sleeps on the sundeck on warm nights.) On the bridge deck, the formal dining table, which extends across most of the yacht’s 42-foot beam, seats 18 people. The woodwork around the table holds electrical outlets so that the space also can serve as a conference room.

Kismet reaches 19 mph and can cruise 5,750 miles at 16 mph without refueling. She is available for charter from Moran Yacht & Ship (www.moran?yachts.com) at a weekly base rate of about $870,000.
