Best of the Best 2008: Series Yachts: Riva 63' Vertigo

Kim Kavin

With its shiny silver hull and space-age helm chair, the Riva 63' Vertigo is a sleek creature indeed. The $3.5 million vessel, which occupies the middle of the Italian builder’s line of 15- to 115-foot motor yachts, made its U.S. debut in February. When it flies across the water at its top speed of 46 mph, it is sure to turn heads, if not remove them from necks.

In the 63' Vertigo, Riva has incorporated features that are designed to appeal to American buyers, who tend to appreciate yacht designs with large, multifunctional spaces inside and out. The helm chair, for instance, can be configured to seat as many as three people, and the shower in the master cabin also serves as a sauna. The yacht is available in both hard-top and soft-top versions.

Inside, light oak and dark wenge wood alternate throughout the main salon and cabins. Officina Italiana Design has filled the spaces with supple fabrics and leather accents, and in the salon, which extends across the yacht’s nearly 16-foot beam, the firm has installed a wenge dining table that seats eight comfortably.

The boat holds three guest cabins. The queen-bed master cabin, located aft, and the queen-bed forward VIP cabin both have en suite facilities, while the smallest cabin, which contains L-shaped bunk beds, sits near a full bathroom that doubles as the day head. A small crew cabin is situated all the way aft.

The 63' Vertigo’s open deck—the vessel’s primary party area—will be a showstopper when the yacht docks stern-to. Here, a sofa located starboard for daytime lounging can be moved close to a table that sits amidships, creating a large outside dining spot.
