Best of the Best 2011: Custom Megayachts: Big Fish

Hailing from the McMullen & Wing shipyard in New Zealand, Big Fish (+64.9.573.1405, www.mcmullenandwing.com; available for charter through 37 South, +64.9.302.0178, www.37south.co.nz) was built to explore the far reaches of the Earth in comfort and style. The 148-foot expedition vessel achieves this with a range of nearly 10,000 nautical miles and a hull built to withstand icy waters, as well as a five-star-hotel-worthy interior with floor-to-ceiling windows. Exterior highlights include decks made of granite instead of teak, an on-deck spa and pool, an observation pod 53 feet above the waterline, and a wraparound beach deck that folds out from the yacht’s stern. Big Fish offers an array of water toys, such as a custom 28-foot tender with a 300-nautical-mile range, and full diving, snorkeling, and fishing gear. A three-story video wall composed of 20 panels can serve as a giant movie screen or display photos taken with the yacht’s underwater cameras. Big Fish accommodates as many as 10 guests in four half-beam cabins (which can convert to two full-beam staterooms) and a bridge-deck master suite.
