Best of the Best 2012: Semicustom Megayachts: Tecnomar Velvet 36

  • Danielle Cutler

Italian builder Tecnomar designed its new 120-foot planing yacht so that passengers could be as close as possible to the water. The Tecnomar Velvet 36 (+39.0585.50.62.1, www.tecnomar.com) features a stern staircase for direct water access, as well as ample windows and areas for outdoor seating and lounging. The yacht’s bow offers a table, sofas, and sun beds; the stern includes a stone table at which eight guests may enjoy open-air dining; and the intimate flybridge provides a place for private sunbathing. Tecnomar adorned the first example of the Velvet 36, which launched in May 2011 as Double Shot, with black- and white-toned woods with metal inlays. The yacht’s large main salon, with its two distinct sitting areas, takes up the bulk of the main deck. Double Shot accommodates nine guests in a spacious owner’s suite, two VIP staterooms, and two guest cabins, and it includes space for six crew members. A pair of 2,800 hp MTU engines gives the yacht a top speed of nearly 31 knots.
