FrontRunners: Fantastic Voyager

Vicem Yachts presented the distinct-looking Vicem 78 Cruiser (www.vicemyacht.com) at the Cannes and Monaco boat shows in September to much applause. Vicem, which will celebrate its 20th year of boatbuilding in 2011, designed the yacht’s high-rising bow and broad, 21-foot beam to provide comfortable transport during long voyages in potentially tumultuous deep-ocean waters. The 78-foot model (priced from $4.3 million) is the second model from the Turkish yard’s new Cruiser series. As it did for the inaugural 92 Cruiser, which launched in the United States in February, Vicem employed cold-molding construction techniques to produce a lightweight yet sturdy hull for the 12-passenger 78.
