Moonen’s Unveils its Largest Launch

  • Danielle Cutler

Already with an eye toward an even larger custom Moonen yacht, the happy owner of Sofia recently celebrated the launch of his 138-foot (42-meter) fully custom motor yacht. Extended by four feet in the early phases of production to accommodate a three-seat submarine that can carry guests to depths of 328 feet, the steel-and-aluminum Sofia features a semi-explorer hull with naval architecture by Stolk Marimecs and a design by Rene van der Velden and the Moonen design team.

Sofia’s light and bright interior was styled by Netherlands-based Art-Line. Oak and zebrano wood and Concetto marble (from Israel’s Caesarstone) set the decor’s foundation and are accentuated by large windows.  Five staterooms accommodate 10 guests, with a configuration that includes a main-deck master suite and four lower-deck staterooms. Sofia also sleeps seven crew. Guests can control everything from the Kaleidescape entertainment system and Samsung Smart LED TVs to electric blinds and climate control via iPads. Two 1,000 hp Caterpillar engines propel Sofia to a 14.5-knot top speed and a cruising speed of 12. The yacht achieves a 5,000-nautical-mile range at 9 knots.

Stay tuned for more information on this motor yacht. Sofia is scheduled to be delivered to its owners by the end of 2012. (www.moonen.com)
