Northern Star

Lürssen’s 248-foot exploration yacht Northern Star (+49.421.6604.166, www.lurssen.com; available for charter through Moran Yacht & Ship, 954.768.0707, www.moranyachts.com) has been described as an English country house on water. A manor is more like it. This rugged (she is certified for light ice) yet genteel yacht, which Lürssen launched last October, has seemingly endless exterior deck space and interiors that fill with natural light.

Country-home touches include antiques and exceptional reproductions, all paired with cream-colored wool carpet. But Northern Star truly shines as a charter yacht thanks to such features as a helipad and six decks with two hot tubs. The yacht also offers a gym and a movie theater, and a main salon that can morph into a dance floor or a children’s playroom. Toys for adult passengers in the salon include a roulette wheel and a Steinway grand player piano.

A bar, study, and private deck highlight the yacht’s upper-deck master suite, which is accompanied by five main-deck staterooms for a total capacity of 12 guests. A crew of as many as 22 attends to passengers on journeys that can stretch more than 9,000 nautical miles without the need to refuel.
