The Washington State–based Westport Yachts added another winner to its flagship 164 series. Built in composite, the semi-displacement trideck motor yacht Boardwalk tastefully carries on the torch. She boasts exterior styling by noted designer Donald Starkey, with naval architecture from William Garden, who penned the whole series. Westport Yachts handled the interior design, which features light-colored carpets and fabrics accented by dark leather furniture pieces and wood. The effect is warm and contemporary.
Boardwalk accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms, including a full-beam master suite on the main deck with his and her baths. Boardwalk’s VIP suite sits on the sky deck and offers up its own private side deck—a very cool feature of all newer 164 hulls. The public spaces on board Boardwalk are wide open. From the formal dining room, guests can see past the comfortable salon to the spacious aft deck with its casual seating area and dining table and out to the water beyond that. For a stellar view of the action, guests can sit in one of four observation seats on the sundeck that face the approaching waters. Just in front of the bridge is another observation area, perfect for sunset cocktails while Boardwalk is under way. The sundeck and fly deck both provide sunning options; the sundeck includes a pool and spa and the fly deck features cushy chaise lounges. Those seeking shade can retreat to the sundeck bar beneath the radar arch or to the large aft deck with its U-shaped seating area.
In addition to offering incredible views, the sundeck also hosts a helipad. Other tender types can be stowed in the water-level tender garage or on the forepeak, where a couple of personal watercraft and a RIB can be found, along with a crane to get the goods down to the water for added convenience. Two MTU 16V4000 engines propel Boardwalk to a top speed of 24 knots and give her a range of 1,700 nautical miles at 20 knots or 5,200 nautical miles at 12 knots. Thirteen crew attend to each guest’s every need.
Now that Boardwalk has made it through the Fort Lauderdale boat show, she is off to the Caribbean. But don’t call your charter broker yet—she’s a completely private yacht. (954.316.6364, www.westportyachts.com)
