The Wider 42 weekend cruiser, which recently took home our 2012 Best of the Best honors (see the June issue), is a testament to the design prowess of industry innovator Tilli Antonelli, who founded Wider Yachts in April 2011. In May of this year, at the Monaco Grand Prix, the Italian shipyard unveiled a special-edition version of its innovative, expandable weekend cruiser. The Wider 42 Cote d’Azur Editiondraws power from the same optional 480 hp Cummins engines (two 370 hp Yanmar motors come standard) that propel the original version beyond 50 knots, but it features a redesigned layout that sheds weight and maximizes fuel efficiency through the implementation of even more carbon fiber components than its predecessor. Other additions include a carbon dinette set that electronically rises from the center cockpit and can transform into a sundeck or chaise lounge, as well as a relocated galley that offers a sink, griddle, and refrigerator. The more efficient layout of the reworked cruiser means that it can now accommodate 12 passengers, though its starting price remains around $1.12 million. (www.wider-yachts.com)
