A Durable Music Dock from JBL

JBL has just released its newest iPad/iPod music dock. At $599, the OnBeat Xtreme joins the high-end world of music docks alongside such top contenders as the Bang & Olfusen BeoSound 8 and Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin. Though it may not have the same appeal for interior decorators as these two more ornamental models, the OnBeat Xtreme brings a unique durability to high-performance audio docks. With its built-in handle behind the docking station, which rotates to accommodate vertical or horizontal iPad orientation, the OnBeat Extreme can go anywhere users find a power outlet. For music playback, the dock utilizes a pair of 9-inch speakers, each with a woofer and tweeter optimized with digital signal processing. The dock also features a built-in USB port for iTunes synchronization, so that users can adjust its settings via a free OnBeat Xtreme iTunes application. (800.336.4525, www.jbl.com)
