A Green Jean

With “eco-friendly” a buzz word in everything from cars to hotels, it’s no surprise that a denim company has finally found a way to make recyclable denim. Nudie Post Recycle Dry jeans are fashioned with a new patented technology cocreated with denim manufacturer ISKO that cuts and mills old denim into a pulp before blending it with virgin organic cotton. The resulting new fabric features a raw, grainy look, due to irregular fiber lengths from processing, but is soft to the touch. The jeans have a slim fit with five pocket details, a zip fly, and tonal stitching throughout; they are composed of 100 percent organic dye and thread and feature recycled copper rivets.

The Swedish company is producing just 500 pairs of jeans, and Barneys’ men’s store has 300 exclusively in the United States ($215 per pair); the rest are sold at Nudie concept stores. Each style includes a numbered limited-edition pocket lining. Finally—jeans that feel good on, and that you can feel good about buying. (www.barneys.com)
