FrontRunners: For Good Measure

  • William Kissel

British suitmaker Timothy Everest (+44.207.377.5770, www.timothyeverest.co.uk) has never subscribed to the conventions of Savile Row. Instead, the protégé of legendary Beatles and Rolling Stones tailor Tommy Nutter follows his own sartorial rules from a restored Georgian house in the Spitalfields section of London. “Our ethos is to create garments that are traditional with a contemporary twist,” says Everest, a member of the new bespoke movement, a group of British tailors determined to reintroduce men to the pleasures of custom-made suits.

This spring, Everest carries that mandate across the Atlantic, where he hopes to attract a new audience of American businessmen with his first made-to-measure tailored clothing, a starter suit collection that can be customized. “The made-to-measure will act as a piquant counterpart to our fully bespoke service,” says Everest, who hopes the suits’ $1,400 starting price, obsessive details, and exquisite fit will ultimately encourage a new generation of clients to trade up to his higher priced (starting at $3,000) British bespoke service. Both collections are available by private appointment three times a year during Everest’s visits to Los Angeles and New York. They are also available throughout the year at his London atelier.
