FrontRunners: Sword Writing

The pen and the sword do not have to be at odds with each other, as evidenced by the S.T. Dupont Samurai Limited Edition (www.st-dupont.com). The designs of this new line of pens and lighters from the Parisian accessories company reference the katana, the weapon of choice among the Japanese feudal warrior class. The highlight of the series is the roughly $26,500 Samurai Prestige fountain pen, on which the company replaces the blue lacquer barrel of the standard models with one made from solid red gold. Limited to 20 examples, the pen also features 131 diamonds and has a matching lighter, letter opener, and display stand.
