Shirts: Kiton

When the Italian clothier Kiton expanded its factory and brought its shirt production in-house in 1996, the brand was determined to create a shirt that would surpass even those of highly revered Neapolitan shirtmakers. The company achieved its goal largely because of Sebastiano Borrelli—a member of the famous Borrelli shirtmaking family of Naples who oversees production to ensure that every Kiton shirt incorporates the same handwork as the brand’s tailored clothing. Each Kiton shirt features more than 17 distinctive details, including hand-sewn buttonholes with 27 stitches per side, handkerchief-rolled and stitched bottoms, and double-stitched shoulders for added durability. Unlike other shirtmakers, Kiton also incorporates a panel of oxford cloth inside the back of every shirt’s collar to retain shape and prevent shrinkage.
