Dine, Drink, and Dance Below Sea Level

The Maldives are renowned for pristine beaches and crystalline waters, and now visitors to these exotic islands can dine above the water and dance and drink below at the Niyama resort’s new restaurant and music club. Located in the southwestern atoll of Dhaalu, Niyama is a 40-minute seaplane flight from Male and is situated on Embudhufushi and Olhuveli islands. The resort’s newest additions are the restaurant Edge, which juts up above the ocean, and Subsix, below, a nightclub with panoramic views of the surrounding Maldivian marine life.

Subsix is billed as the world’s first underwater nightclub, It features floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides facing the ocean, and it plans to deliver top-notch international DJs for entertainment on the dance floor. Not to be outdone by the groundbreaking Subsix, Edge aims to offer an unforgettable dining experience. Experimenting with flavor and texture, Chef Arron Rhodes takes inspiration from his Indian and Southeast Asian travels, melding flavors from various cuisines to offer a fresh and modern spin that will surprise even veteran foodies. In addition to the restaurant itself, guests can enjoy a drink at the Edge bar, which is perched over the water.

Niyama, developed by Per Aquum, features 86 studios and pavilions and an array of sleeping options. Beach Studios feature outdoor bathrooms, large deck areas, and secluded beach views; Deluxe Beach Studios have private pools; and Beach Pavilions offer butler service, private pools, and exclusive beach access.
