Great Coffee at Your Door

Great beans bring out the best in any coffee maker. And Tonx, a Los Angeles–based subscription service, will keep coffee lovers supplied every other week with a 12-ounce bag of extraordinarily fresh, single-source beans for $38 a month. Started last year by Tony Konecny, formerly with Intelligentsia Coffee, Tonx procures beans from around the world, offering a different selection each month (depending on the growing season) and roasting no more than 24 hours before shipping. The selection from the La Bolsa coffee farm in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, arrived with information on the farm, tasting notes, and a short manifesto on coffee appreciation. The brew was smooth and nuanced—the sort of coffee that might turn a member of the Mr. Coffee generation into an über coffee geek. (www.tonx.org)
