FrontRunner: Smooth Operators

The Monaco Groom Center from Parisian manufacturer Hommage (817.229.0300, www.hommage.com) could make you actually look forward to a morning shave. In addition to displaying sculptural curves that are intended to evoke its namesake principality (Shanghai, Chicago, and Stockholm are among Hommage’s other shaving sets), the Monaco center ($390 as shown) also has more practical attributes: The stand is weighted so that it will not tip over; the silver-tip badger-hair brush and rubber-handled razor attach to it magnetically; and the shape and heft of the razor (which holds Gillette Mach III blades) allow for maximum control.
Hommage’s grooming collection debuted last summer at Barneys New York, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Fred Segal Beauty. Its platinum-plated Monte-Carlo set, a $6,500 limited edition of the Monaco Groom Center, comes in a pear wood box, which, with its functioning hygrometer and humidifying element, can be used as a humidor.
