FrontRunners: Art for Heart's Sake

Art for Heart’s Sake Fifty Foot Films (www.fiftyfootfilms.com) of Los Angeles promises to give your home movies—of birthday parties, weddings, or other worthy occasions—the Hollywood treatment. “There are people out there who want handmade table linens for their wedding, so they have them flown in from Bali,” says Paul Korver, the company’s founder. “Yet they document the event on a throwaway medium like video.” Fifty Foot Films instead will record such events on 35 mm film, which provides a richness and depth that videotape lacks. In addition to 35 mm work, which starts at $125,000, the company offers movies in 16 mm and 8 mm, which begin at $25,000 and $12,500, respectively.
