FrontRunners: Close And Comfortable

Calculating that by this point in human history, men in the thousands will have grown weary of unisex salons, former sports-industry executives Bill Sanders and Adam Dishell have created a Los Angeles–area barbershop that recalls an old-school London gentlemen’s club. At The Shave of Beverly Hills (www.theshavebeverlyhills.com), patrons sit in antique barber chairs, sip cocktails, listen to jazz and blues, and watch ESPN while receiving haircuts, seven-towel straight-razor shaves, massages, and shoe shines. Female assistants attend to skin-care needs without making customers smell like a flower shop, and a room at the back caters to those desiring privacy. Haircuts for nonmembers start at $65; memberships, which include all barbershop services, cost $4,000 a year. Sanders notes that some members drop by every morning for a shave. . . . Also from our Morning Rituals Department: Bosch, inventor of the first electric automobile starter nearly a century ago, has introduced another way to get things going. The Bosch Built-in Benvenuto coffee and espresso maker, from the firm’s home appliances division (www.boschappliances.com), requires zero counter space, as it glides in and out of a kitchen cabinet. The $2,000 platinum-and-black unit has a stainless steel brewing compartment that, according to Bosch, prevents the beverages from tasting metallic. Additional features include a grinder, a milk-frothing spout, and a warming tray for mugs. . . .
