FrontRunners: Digs for the Dog

Lisa Matte

Snoopy never had it so good. If cartoonist Charles Schulz had consulted Alan Mowrer and Michelle Pollak, the beloved beagle’s backyard digs would have made the rest of the Peanuts gang’s homes look like, well, doghouses. Mowrer, owner of Denver-based La Petite Maison (877.404.1184, www.lapetitemaison.com), and Pollak, an interior designer who specializes in small spaces, have teamed up to create doggy domiciles that rival the comfort and elegance found in the homes of their canine clients’ owners. Styles range from replicas of owners’ homes to Swiss chalets to country cottages. Real windows, marble floors, custom wall treatments, heat, electricity, and air-conditioning are a few of the optional extras. One dog owner even made sure his pet’s house was big enough so that he could curl up inside with his pooch, adding a literal meaning to the notion of being in the doghouse.
