FrontRunners: Frame Acclaim

Frank Thorsberg

You could find a more valuable picture frame—a rare antique or one fashioned from a precious metal—but none is as versatile as the $2,499 Digi-Frame DF-1710 (www.digi-frame.com). The device can store as many as 10,000 digital images for display on its 17-inch flat panel screen, which features 1,024x768 XGA resolution. New photos or videos can be added by inserting a disc in the CD-ROM drive or by transferring them directly from a camera with an external USB card reader. You can also download content from the Internet or transfer files from a home or office computer. For the ambitious, the software enables you to mix still images with video and sound to create professional-quality slide shows.

The Digi-Frame includes a pair of stereo speakers, but it is also possible to route the sound through a home audio system.
