Kaleidescape, the Sunnyvale, Calif., company whose 1U Server was featured in Robb Report’s 2005 Best of the Best issue, recently introduced two movie players that enhance the media server’s capabilities. The Kaleidescape 1080p Player and Mini Player (www?.kaleid?escape.com) will scale DVD playback up to a screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels—the highest resolution currently available from any consumer component. The 1080p Player weighs 10 pounds, costs $4,295, and allows users to load DVDs to the $10,000 Kaleidescape server. The compact Mini Player, which is designed to access the server from any room in the house through an Ethernet-established network, costs $2,995.
