FrontRunners: Liquid Gold

Veuve Clicquot (www.veuve-clicquot.com) has filled 3,600 jeroboams with its Brut Champagne. Each of the 3-liter bottles, christened Yellow-boams, is affixed with the brand’s yellow label—crafted in alligator, ostrich, or stingray hide—and topped with a 24-karat-gold-plated muzzle cap. The caps are engraved with the signature of Madame Clicquot, whose successor, Edouard Werlé, introduced the yellow label in 1877, following her death in 1866. Last year, the auction at Florida’s Naples Winter Wine Festival (www.napleswinefestival.com) raised $15.6 million to benefit underprivileged and at-risk children. Offerings at this year’s sale, which will take place January 26, will include the Mondavi family’s first case of Continuum (2005), a 2009 Bentley Brooklands coupe, and a place among the judges who determine Robb Report’s 2009 Car of the Year. The auction also will include a lot containing two Harley-Davidson Screaming Eagle motorcycles, six magnums of Screaming Eagle wine, and two nights’ lodging in Napa Valley.
