Wine-tasting dinners have become de rigueur at resort-based restaurants, but the new Les Grands Vins de France menu at Mary Elaine’s, the acclaimed French eatery at Scottsdale’s Phoenician hotel (800.888.8234, www.thephoenician.com), deserves a classification of its own. Offered through spring 2006, the restaurant’s six-course tasting menu features some of the world’s most prized bottlings. Poured by the glass, rare wines such as Le Montrachet and Château Lafite complement chef Bradford Thompson’s modern French cuisine. Each dinner begins with Krug Champagne and concludes with Château d’Yquem. Reservations for the $500-per-person meals are filling fast, but the featured vintages can be found anytime on Mary Elaine’s 2,200-label wine list.
