FrontRunners: Poggenpohl

The Editors

The German kitchen-design company Poggenpohl further blurs the line between workplace and home—specifically the kitchen—with its new Dining Desk (www.poggenpohlusa.com). Press a button, and a sleeve slides out from the middle of the unit, expanding the desk’s width by 18 inches and exposing a section that can hold serving trays, chopping boards, and cutlery trays. Trolleys for heating and cooling slide into spaces at the ends of the expanded desk.

Poggenpohl designed the desk with German furniture maker Draenert. The desk’s price ranges from $25,000 to $70,000, depending on the finish (13 varieties of natural stone, five types of wood veneer) and size (99 inches long to seat eight, 79 inches long to seat six). Poggenpohl is displaying the desk at its showrooms in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Houston, and Manhattan.
