FrontRunners: Rowing To A Better Place

  • Karen Cakebread

Rowers seem to be overlooked as a travel demographic, but Randonnee Tours (204.475.6939, www.randonneetours.com), an outfit that arranges self-guided trips, now offers excursions for skilled scullers. Randonnée’s packages include rowing sessions at clubs in Vancouver, Victoria, and Seattle, while allowing time for other pursuits in each city. Rowers can select a starting date from now through October 31, and can choose the level of accommodation, the length of the trip (from three to 10 days), and the number of cities to visit. The only prerequisites are current membership at a rowing club and a minimum of two seasons’ rowing experience. Packages include several meals, bike rentals, maps for walking tours, and suggestions for restaurants and additional activities. Randonnée also is organizing individual rowing trips to Italy for the fall.
