FrontRunners: Scaling The Summit

    Elec­trostatic loudspeakers, which use a single, electrically charged panel rather than a cone woofer and tweeters to transform signals into sound, can re-create pitch-perfect audio in the middle and high ranges and eliminate the problem of distortion caused by crossover. Now, MartinLogan (martinlogan.com), which is known for such electrostatic pacesetters as the $70,000 Statement e2 and the $10,000 Summit, has introduced a speaker in the four-figure range that incorporates nearly all the technologies found in the Summit. The Vista loudspeaker, priced at $3,700 per pair, stands 57 inches high, weighs 54 pounds, and allows the more casual listener to hear what he has been missing.
