FrontRunners: Select Smoke

The wrapper is the most costly leaf in a cigar—and the Cusano 18 Maduro incorporates three in an unusual double-maduro blend. The outer wrapper, a chocolaty 1996 Connecticut maduro leaf, conceals a binder made from a 1999 Dominican San Vicente Olor maduro wrapper. The filler contains a wrapper, too: a 1996 Brazilian Matafina leaf, blended with 1985 Dominican Oro Seco and 1999 Piloto Dominicano tobaccos. Surprisingly, the five disparate tastes merge to produce one of the smoothest, richest maduros of recent years. ($82 for a box of 18) www.cusanocigars.com
