FrontRunners: Select Smoke

The Editors

The José Seijas Signature Series 2000, the eponymous creation of the master blender for the world’s largest cigar company, Altadis, is one of our favorite light cigars. Others apparently agree, because Altadis has expanded the line with several new sizes. The most welcome of these is a 4¼ x 46 figurado that is comparable in shape and size to Arturo Fuente’s hyper-popular Hemingway Short Story cigar. The figurado’s small size and delicate taste make it an ideal between-acts smoke. The Signature 2000’s Peruvian, Nicaraguan, and Dominican filler leaves; Dominican binder; and silky, well-aged Ecuador-grown wrapper combine to produce a creamy yet subtly spicy flavor. Most good cigar cutters weigh heavily in the pocket, but the one-ounce Xikar MTX Multi Tool has the same heft as five quarter coins. It folds compactly enough to fit on a key ring, yet it clips cigars as large as 54-ring gauge. Other tools—a cigar poker, cigar box opener, screwdriver, and bottle opener—fold out from the scissor handles. Four finishes are available. ($40) www.xikar.com
