FrontRunners: South Beach Makeover

  • Fluto Shinzawa

To illustrate its emphasis on service, Miami’s National Hotel (800.327.8370, www.nationalhotel.com) redesigned its lobby so that the concierge desk is more prominent than the reservation counter. This was just one of the changes made during a recent $3 million renovation to the Art Deco hotel located on South Beach’s Collins Avenue. Its centerpiece is now the Triplex, a three-story, 1,250-square-foot penthouse wherein guests can enjoy a living room with a 50-inch plasma television, a kitchen, an office with high-speed Internet access, three bedrooms, and a 13th-floor view of the Atlantic Ocean and the National’s 205-foot-long pool.
