FrontRunners: Space To Unwind

On a typical Friday night at Republic (www.therepublicla.com), a new 12,000-square-foot restaurant on North La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, it is not uncommon to find 120 patrons in the main dining room, studio executives screening a movie in the event area, and a downtown law firm celebrating a victory in the private dining room upstairs. “We have an extremely flexible space here,” says CEO Mikayel Israyelyan, who also owned Bliss, the restaurant/ nightclub that formerly occupied the address. “It’s large, but each section has its own identity and creates a sense of intimacy.” The menu includes dry-aged New York steak, mushroom-stuffed halibut cheeks, truffle grits, and smoked cheddar macaroni and cheese. In the main dining room, a striking antler chandelier hangs between a 22-foot-tall glass wine tower and a large indoor fire pit.
