As evidenced by the new E’Spa facilities at sister hotels Palace Luzern (+41.41.416.1616, www.palace-luzern.ch) and Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa (+41.33.828.2828, www.victoria-jungfrau.com), Swiss spas have evolved considerably since the 19th century, when wealthy Victorians flocked to Switzerland for its fresh alpine air and mineral-rich thermal waters.

Palace Luzern, set on the shores of Lake Luzern, unveiled its $10 million E’Spa facility last summer. Part of an extensive renovation of the 100-year-old property, the new spa includes an 800-square-foot private suite in one of the hotel’s turrets.

The grande dame Victoria-Jungfrau, an Interlaken landmark since 1865, partnered with E’Spa to rebuild the hotel’s existing facility. The new spa, which opened in 2003, incorporates a fitness center (with indoor tennis courts), a Clarins beauty center, and 16 treatment rooms that include 10 secluded contemporary suites.
