FrontRunners: Tours de Force
A trip aboard the luxury barge Magna Carta (www.magna-carta.co.uk) offers a chance to visit four of Great Britain’s finest golf courses. The cruise, from London to Henley-on-Thames, includes a stop at a public course on the grounds of Hampton Court Palace. Four to eight golfers can book the all-inclusive cruise, with the full complement costing about $30,600. Between rounds, as you survey the English countryside passing by, you may come to believe, as did the lords who forced the king’s hand in 1215, that the Magna Carta is indeed a great charter.
Young women, or their parents, may be interested in another type of tour of the United Kingdom this year, as the London Debutante Season (www.londonseason.net) will open its activities to Americans for the first time. For the past 250 years, the London Season has organized events that have given women from aristocratic backgrounds an entrée into society. On April 26, it will bring American debutantes and their British cousins together for a 10-day tour ($7,900) that will include tea at the House of Lords and accommodations at the Sloane Club in London and at a private castle in Edinburgh, Scotland.
