FrontRunners: Town And Country

  • Gay Van Ausdall

A little bit of country meets a little bit of city on the New England Luxury Escape ($4,300 for double occupancy), a four-night package trip that begins at Boston’s XV Beacon (877.982.3226, www .xvbeacon.com) and concludes with two nights at the Twin Farms resort (800.894.6327, www.twinfarms.com) in Barnard, Vt. Accommodations at the turn-of-the-20th-century, Beaux Arts–style hotel on historic Beacon Hill include canopied four-poster beds, gas fireplaces, and marble bathrooms with whirlpool tubs. The 60-room property’s Federalist Restaurant features classic New England cuisine and a rooftop garden. Among the highlights at Twin Farms, a three-hour drive from Boston, are the private cottages with fireplaces and antique furnishings. The 300-acre retreat also includes extensive gardens and offers such countrified recreational opportunities as hiking through the surrounding forest and swimming in the seven-acre lake.
