FrontRunners: Well-Stocked Seller

Lori Bryan

At the first live auction from Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. (312.482.9996, www.hdhwine.com), collectors may get more than what they bid for. “We’re not just an auction house,” says CEO Michael Davis. “We’re part of a respected retail company, and we have the options of private retail services.”

The Chicago-based buyer and seller of fine wines is a new venture from Davis, Paul Hart, and John Hart, whose combined experience in the wine marketplace includes former positions at Christie’s and Sotheby’s. In addition to auctions, the company will offer cellar-consignment services, long-term wine storage, and a retail web site. Its first auction, January 29 at Chicago’s University Club, includes rare Bordeaux and a nine-vintage vertical of Screaming Eagle.
