FrontRunners: What's Cooking

Two well-regarded designers have opened new displays of custom kitchens. Smallbone of Devizes (www.smallboneofdevizes.com), a company founded by self-trained British designer Charlie Smallbone, has launched its first U.S. shop, in Manhattan. Small-bone’s kitchen pieces (the firm also makes custom bedroom and bathroom furniture) vary stylistically, from the country- influenced Original Hand Painted series to the contemporary Walnut & Silver collection. Meanwhile, Denver-based Wm Ohs (www.wmohs.com) has opened a fifth California showroom, in Newport Beach. The shop displays founder and co-owner William Ohs’ Transitions line of finished wood cabinets in American, Asian, and European styles. In a departure for Ohs, whose cabinets until now have been fairly traditional, Transitions has a contemporary look, with clean, minimalist lines.
