Grand Openings: Triumphant Trio

Shaun Tolson

Regent Hotels & Resorts plans to open a total of 10 new properties by 2011. If the new Regents in Florida, France, and the Maldives are any indication, travelers have much to look forward to from the brand.

The Regent Bal Harbour, which debuted last March, gives guests a lift—eight lifts, to be precise, that deliver you to rooms on semiprivate floors. "Each room is accessed via an elevator that opens into a foyer instead of a hallway," says general manager Guenter Richter. Once inside one of the 61 rooms or 63 suites, guests enjoy views of Bakers Haulover Inlet or the Atlantic Ocean.

Across the Atlantic, the Regent Grand Hotel Bordeaux—which opened in June on the Place de la Comédie, within reach of the region’s nearly 10,000 wine châteaux—features 150 rooms and suites, including the city’s largest accommodation. Five of the suites have wine bars tended by private sommeliers, and several rooms overlook Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre.

Dramatic developments also are unfolding in the Indian Ocean, at the Regent Maldives. Scheduled to open this summer, the Maalefushi Island retreat will host guests in 23 beach pavilions and 27 over-water villas.
